RESEARCH FUNDING

Since 2017, we have partnered with U.S. Senators to secure research funding for endometriosis. Due directly to our partnership with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D - Mass.) and Senator Orrin Hatch (R - Utah), the Department of Defense allocated $9.2 million in research funding for endometriosis in FY 2018 in the CDMRP (Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program) for the first time in history. The CDMRP explores novel approaches to biomedical research that affects the American public, the military and Congress.

In 2019, after Senator Hatch’s retirement, Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) stepped in his place alongside Senator Warren to continue bi-partisan advocacy for endometriosis funding. With our collaboration, the Senators penned a joint letter in April 2019 to the Senate Appropriations Committee requesting DOD funding for FY 2020. In January 2020, it was announced that endometriosis will be on the DOD’s funding list for FY 2021.

In March 2020, Senator Warren and Senator Romney again advocated for continued funding from the DOD for FY 2021 in addition to requesting an additional $26 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health.
